Matt Bomer Sighting!

Friday’s trip to Regis & Kelly had been planned in advance due to the days guest: Matt Bomer! Matt stars in USA’s latest hit White Collar as Neal Caffrey, a white collar criminal who agrees to help the FBI using his experience and skills to help catch other white collar criminals. Intentionally missing out on stand-by audience seats and heading straight for the exit we knew Matt would be coming out of, we waited anxiously for the show to be over. Just before 10AM the garage door opened and Matt’s SUV slowly headed down the driveway until Matt kindly asked the driver to stop so he could get out and sign for his fans. I should point out that my friend and I were the only two fans there, the other two people waiting for him were autograph sellers and he knew it! Not only signing but personalizing his autographs to us, and then posing for pictures, he was very sweet and even thanked us for waiting for him. Not every day you get someone so humble!

Matt as “Kyle Rayner” in Green Lantern And The Justice League?

Matt Bomer as Kyle Rayner. I originally wanted Milo Ventimiglia for this role, but I decided Bomer would be better. He’s the same age as Reynolds (32) and is almost exactly like Kyle physically (he’s half an inch taller than Kyle, but facially looks remarkably similar to KR). Bomer has great charisma, and would make a great hero. His best work is a brief stint on Chuck, and the 2009 show White Collar. Since he looks just like Kyle, and makes a good hero, it makes sense to cast him as Mr. Rayner.

Wouldn’t that be amazing? In case you have forgotten what Matt thinks of comic book roles:

“If that opportunity ever presented itself again, it would definitely be something I would be interested in. I would love to do a comic book role.”

‘White Collar’ Gets Another Year

Woohoo! I knew it would get renewed, but I’m so happy it’s official now.

USA Network’s freshman dramedy “White Collar” has been collared for a second season.

The show’s creator/executive producer Jeff Eastin tweeted the news Friday evening. “Congratulations to the best cast and crew on television,” he wrote.

The pickup was confirmed by USA though no details on the size of the order or the second season’s premiere date were provided.

“Jeff Eastin created a show that was both on-brand and that arguably took USA Network to a new level of sophistication,” USA’s president of original programing Jeff Wachtel said. “After breaking out of the gate so strongly, and with finale ratings that actually exceeded the premiere, ‘White Collar’ was a lock for a second season.”

In the first portion of its freshman season, “White Collar” was a solid performer though not a breakout hit of the caliber of recent additions “Royal Pains” or “Burn Notice.”

Still, the show, which got off to a strong start with 5.4 million viewers tuning in for the well-reviewed premiere, boasts a charismatic lead in Matt Bomer as a suave white collar criminal-turned-FBI consultant and began to hit its creative stride towards the end of its initial seven-episode run. That run ended on a high note when the fall finale, which followed the record-breaking “Monk” series finale, hit series highs, averaging 5.55 million viewers.

“White Collar” is slated to return for the rest of its freshman season Jan. 20 when it moves from Fridays to Tuesdays.

Possible “White Collar” Golden Globe nomination?

It’s no wonder the Golden Globes have a reputation for being more fun than the rather stately affairs that usually bring out Hollywood’s A-list. After all, broadcasting live from the Beverly Hilton on Jan. 17 and keeping the Champagne flowing is bound to loosen things up. But the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn.’s biggest night is also known for being ahead of the curve when it comes to honoring first-season TV shows — partly because of being the first TV-related ceremony of the calendar year and partly because of its envelope-pushing attitude.

This season offers a ballroom full of potentials that could strike the fancy of the HFPA’s 83 voting members — among them “Modern Family,” “FlashForward” and “The Good Wife.”

For “Good Wife” executive producers Robert and Michelle King, the idea of receiving a nomination is exciting. “What it does with a first-year show is it drives more viewers to it, beyond the honor, which would be amazing,” Robert King says.

Attracting more viewers is also top of mind for “White Collar” executive producer Jeff Eastin, whose cable dramedy has been well-received by viewers in its first few episodes. But Eastin has his award expectations in check.

“I gained a huge amount of respect [this year] for anybody who can even keep a show on for a season,” Eastin says. “Honestly, a lot of what really made the show popular has got to be the casting. The chemistry between [Matthew Bomer and Tim DeKay] is what really jumps off the screen.”
