USA renews “Royal Pains”, “White Collar”, and “Psych”!

USA Network’s entire programming lineup is returning next year: The network has just renewed “Royal Pains,” “White Collar” and “Psych” for another season.

The network previously agreed to bring back “In Plain Sight,” “Burn Notice,” “Covert Affairs” and “Law & Order: Criminal Intent.”

“It’s a wonderful validation that the shows are working,” said USA programming president Jeff Wachtel.

With seven returning dramas, USA is close to having a stable of successful hour-long shows that equals some broadcast networks. Though USA expects to once again launch one or two new dramas next year, executives plan to expand into new genres, such as comedy and unscripted programming, to help broaden the lineup.

“Though its lovely to celebrate success, it also allows us to push out — you don’t want to alienate your base, but you don’t want to sit still,” he said.

Even if the network reaches its broad-spectrum goals, Wachtel expects USA to continue feeling like a cable enterprise rather than a broadcast network.

“In our early days, original programming was seen as an elective,” he said. “It’s not an elective anymore, but it’s also not an imperitive to fill time slots. We’re still able to be more hand-crafted. We’re not going to get to the point of, ‘oh my god, we need a comedy block on Monday nights.’ It’s still going to remain ‘no show before its time.’”

“Royal Pains” will return for 16 to 18 episodes, more likely 18, which helps the network split the show’s season into two uninterrupted runs. The show was second only to its “Burn Notice” lead-in for delivering adults 18-49 this summer among scripted shows (3.5 million in the demo). “White Collar” will get 16 episodes and drew 2.3 million in the demo. “Psych” will also receive 16 episodes, and ranked as the summer’s top scripted show on cable Wednesday nights in the demo (2.3 million).

Great news! I’m sure they are celebrating in NYC!

Best show on TV with the best lead actor! WC will be around for quite a while, or at least as long as Matt chooses to do it.

finally, the news we were all waiting for! very happy…hope it goes on for a long time..I’d especially be interested in seeing what Neal is upto, once his 4-year partnership with Peter comes to an end, so there should be atleast 5 seasons :)

wow!!!
Good news!

3 seasons, or maybe 4 is just about the right number.

As much as I love this show, I REALLY hope that major juicy dramatic film roles will be forthcoming for Matt. Then we will really see him shine. And so will everyone else. (Just not Superman, please.)

Hooray! This news totally made my day yesterday evening. Congratulations and thank you to the amazing White Collar family. ^_^

Agree with NameRequired – he’s too good for Superman role which tend to be a curse long term – just want him to get a great movie role to really let him shine!

Posted by Kimberly

i agree with namerequired on the superman thing, he does have a great superman/clark kent look but he isn’t superman size my opinion leave superman to tom welling and let matt get othe movie roles, i just want to see more matt tv movies i just want more matt

Posted by Lynne

I’d hate for him to do Superman. It is a cursed role and, besides, he’s moved on. I’m sure he’ll find something perfect to do!

Posted by Rob

Superman would be going backwards for Matt, he’s up for bigger things long run. And on size issue, having 6.2 guy vs. 5.11 guy doesn’t always work either – look at last go ’round – kind of ironic that Matt’s in a far better place career wise then the one who got the role.

I love Superman when it comes to superheros im all for superman, and smallville is one of my favorite shows so when it comes to me seeing an actor as superman it is tom welling. and as the curse it has hit brandon r., dean c. and tom welling YET. but superman i agree isnt for matt

i would like to see matt do some dramas, some action, maybe a lil thriller or horror and will i think he would be great doing some comedys. i seen him in tvs and each one of the characters he played were all so diff and he made them believeable as them. he has so much talent and i just cant wait to see more of him on TV shows or on the big screen.

who cares about superman stuff lets just jump up and down and be happy that matt will be appearing on our tvs as our fav charmer neal. and let’s just hope that more roles of the movie type come his way but hey tv roles do just fine as long as i get to see him
